Fake snow conspiracy in Texas after winter storm

Fake snow conspiracy in Texas after winter storm 23 Feb, 2021 09:09 PM 2 minutes to read By: Phoebe Loomes An unusual new conspiracy theory has spread online after Texas suffered through a severe winter storm. Viral videos on TikTok showed some users apparently baffled by the properties of the snow that enveloped the state last week, alleging it s manufactured and it smells like plastic when heated. One video shows a young Texan woman trying to melt a snowball with a small tea light candle on her back porch. The snowball she s holding becomes blackened by the candle flame but doesn t immediately melt. Snow should melt. I don t think this is snow. I think this is manufactured snow, the woman says. She goes on to hold a snowball over a hair dryer in another video.

Camp Rhonda Residents Made to Choose Between Property Owner, Other Homeless Activists

Outside a tent at the embattled Dallas homeless encampment known as Camp Rhonda, the wind blew ash and smoke from a small firepit into Michael Lavelle Amphy s face. The air was thick with the smell of dying flames. It was Amphy s last day at the camp near Interstate 45 and Ferris Street, as it was for the rest of the homeless residents. They packed their belongings, stuffing whatever they wanted to take with them into black trash bags and moving boxes. Some were leaving with Ryan Ahmadian, co-founder of the Dallas Houseless Committee and a member of Dallas Stops Evictions. They d head to a hotel for two weeks, which is paid for with funds raised by activists. Feed the People, another activist group, raised nearly $200,000 to help those affected by last week’s winter storms. Ahmadian said they paid $30,000 for more than 20 rooms.

Storm blows in, shuts everything down, and is gone in hours

A gusty, snowy storm that swept over northwest Wyoming on Tuesday wreaked havoc for a few hours, though by midday the event had largely run its course. Between daylight and around 10:30 a.m. there was a quick succession of highway and county road closures, followed by START buses ceasing operation. Wind speeds on the top of Mount Glory held steady at nearly 40 mph, with gusts of up to 54 mph. The wind instrument at the top of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort tram was “lost” at about 7 a.m., possibly due to even higher wind speeds, according to MountainWeather.com meteorologist and News&Guide columnist Jim Woodmencey.
